Osa, Harald: The Hardanger Fiddle

Hardanger Fiddle Method.

Hardanger Fiddle Method.
This method has been written so that musicians and others interested may learn somethong about Hardanger fiddle playing. The descriptions presuppose good knowledge of violin playing. In ordinary music one frequently comes across phrases borrowed from folk music, and it is an added advantage to know their origin, so as to give the rendering a Norwegian colour. Ideally every norwegian violinist should as a matter of course be able to play the Hardanger fiddle, or at least play "slåttar" on the violin. If this method could help people to a greater understanding of the fine traditions of our national fiddle playing, it would be a great gain both to fiddlers and public alike.
