A tune to listen to, a so-called "listening tune", is a well known concept in most hardanger fiddle areas. The fiddler should play a listening tune more sowly than a dance tune. It is usually played somewhat "tentatively", without strict metrical measures, and in Valdres it has a solemn mood. It should give the listener an almost religious feeling, of beauty and peace.
This book presents 53 Listening Tunes, transcriptions and introduction to this Hardanger Fiddle Tradition. Comments in Norwegian and English.
