Description

Halleluja, vår strid er endt / I denne søte juletid
(Hallelujah, our battle is over / In this sweet time of Christmas)

The words were written by Hans Adolf Brorson and can be found in the collections Nogle Jule-Psalmer (1732) and Troens Rare Klenodie (1739). When the latter collection was published in 1739, an extra verse was added, lending this arrangement its title: Halleluja, vår strid er endt.

The melody follows the oral tradition of Ola O. Fagerheim of Sauda who sang it as a burial hymn as the coffin was lowered into the grave. He would only sing the last verse.

If you choose to sing the text In this sweet time of Christmas (set in italics), the appropriate time of year to use this would be Christmastide.
