Opera by Knut Vaage and Jon Fosse
Somebody is Going to Come – a successful opera story.
The opera Nokon kjem til å komme/Somebody is Going to Come is based on the Norwegian author Jon Fosse´s story of the same name. It has led a charmed life since its premiere at the Ultima – Oslo Contemporary Music Festival in autumn 2000 where it received glowing international reviews.
Jon Fosse´s text has a distinctive poetry, creating through its highly patterned language a powerful exploration of the tensions inherent in human relationships; it occupies a theatrical idiom which, paradoxically, straddles the boundaries between realism and absurdism. It presents an elemental theatrical situation in simple language. With such a thoroughly worked out interaction as that between Fosse´s libretto and Vaage´s music, we see continued success for the opera in years to come…
The piece had several repeat performances in 2013 and 2014 – at Théâtre National du Luxembourg) and at Staattheater Giessen, Germany . The latter will continue with performances during 2015.
